Born in Brisbane in 1991, Claudia Zorbas grew up in Townsville. She started violin lessons at the age of four with her mother, Magdolna, an accomplished violinist originally from Hungary. Claudia’s father Stavros, is a businessman who composes music and plays the guitar in his spare time, his main interest being Greek music.

After studying violin for only a year Claudia won her first competition. She went on to achieve success in the 1999, 2000 and 2001 AUSTA Festivals, but her first major breakthrough came in 2003 when she and her mother travelled to Hungary. There Claudia auditioned for and was accepted by the Franz Liszt Music Academy in Budapest. One of more than 200 applicants, she was the only child accepted. She is receiving tuition at the Academy from Andras Kiss.

In 2003 Claudia also won the Zathureczky Violin Competition in Hungary. She has performed live on television in Athens and was invited to perform at an international peacekeeping conference in Geneva this year. She has had several invitations to perform with Bekescsaba Franz Liszt Chamber Orchestra.

Claudia has recorded for ABC Radio in Australia and has played as soloist with the SBS Youth Orchestra in Sydney in addition to her busy schedule in Europe and she was recently the recipient of an Australian Council of the Arts grant to assist her with a professional recording session with orchestral accompaniment. Her musical ambitions include solo performances with the world’s best orchestras, playing a Stradivarius and being a prolific recording artist.
