Andrew Bushell

Andrew Bushell, MA (Oxon)., LTCL, PGCE
Andrew Bushell was born in Nottingham, England. He was a chorister in the choir of Peterborough Cathedral and won a Choral Scholarship to Magdalen College, Oxford, where he studied Music under Dr. Bernard Rose and Dr. Bojan Bujic.

As a Counter-Tenor, Andrew was taught by Paul Esswood, Kevin Smith and James Bowman and he has sung in the choirs of Magdalen College, Oxford, Winchester Cathedral, The Clerkes of Oxenford and The Academy of St. Martin-in-the-Fields and appeared with these choirs on numerous recordings, overseas tours, live broadcasts and concerts, including appearances at the Proms in London and other major European Music Festivals.

Andrew has appeared as a soloist on numerous occasions, especially in the performance of baroque repertoire and he has worked with The National Youth Music Theatre Company of England, being Musical Director for the West End run of Captain Stirrick at the Sadlers Wells Theatre in London.

Andrew is a singing examiner for the Australian Music Examination Board and for TEE Music and has served on the Australian Society for Music Education and Australian National Choral Association Committees.

Andrew has worked with many choral groups, having been conductor of The Oxford Camerata, The Sheppard Singers, The Giovanni Consort and working with many choirs both in Australia and overseas, including the Eton College Choral Courses and The Penang State Symphony Orchestra and Chorus in Malaysia.

He has conducted performances of major choral works including Miserere by Pergolesi, the Passions of JS Bach, Messiah, Dixit Dominus and the Coronation Anthems by Handel, Double Mass in C Minor by Mozart and performances of twentieth century works including the Mass in G by Poulenc and works by Leighton, Durufle and Sculthorpe. In 2006, Andrew was a nominee for the Western Australian Citizen of the Year Award in the Category of Arts and Entertainment.

Andrew is currently Director of Music and Coordinator of the Visiting Artists’ Programme at Hale School and Co-Conductor of the Western Australian Youth Chorale.


SuLyn Chong

Su-Lyn Chong
With a passion in Music Education, Choral Directing and Music Theatre, Su-Lyn thoroughly enjoys working with young people in a dynamic music programme.

After completing her Bachelor of Music Education (Hons.) at the University of Western Australia, Su-Lyn taught at Methodist Ladies' College for six years, with her final years as the Assistant Director of Music.

She then moved on to Iona Presentation College as Director of Music for four years before joining the Music Department at Hale School in 2007, where she teaches full time and assists with the Visiting Artist Programme.

Su-Lyn has also freelanced as a Music Educator and Choral specialist, conducting workshops for the Australian Society of Music Education, lecturing for Edith Cowan University, adjudicating at school music festivals, directing the Western Australian Children's Choir, teaching piano, performing as a member of the a capella vocal ensemble "Just In Time" and co-authoring "The Opera and Music Theatre Resource" published by McGraw-Hill in February 2008.



Miranda Sims

Miranda Sims
Miranda completed her Bachelor of Music Education degree with First Class Honours at the University of Western Australia, then worked at Methodist Ladies’ College as an instrumental violin teacher and as Assistant Director of Music. She also toured with the West Australian Youth Jazz Orchestra in 2000, performing at eight concerts during the Sydney Olympic Games.

In 2002 she became the Director of Music at Corpus Christi College then moved to Hale in 2004, where she works full time in the Music Department and assists with the Visiting Artists’ Programme.

In her spare time, she performs as a violinist with various chamber ensembles, orchestras and at a variety of local music festivals.


Maria Waltham

Maria Waltham
Maria has worked in executive administration roles in Perth over the last 25 years, and is currently the Personal Assistant to the Director of Music at Hale School.

In addition to Maria’s PA duties, she has a central role with assistance to the Coordinator of the Visiting Artists’ Programme. Maria is responsible for the entire management of box office bookings for all Visiting Artists’ Concerts and enjoys direct liaison with Patrons.

Maria’s efficiency and assistance enables the smooth running of the development, organisation and administration of the programme.
